VISION SERVICES

At 4S Eyecare we pride ourselves on being your comprehensive, "one stop shopping", eyecare destination.
Our services include:

Comprehensive Eye Health: Periodic eye and vision exams are an important part of preventative health care. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms, so you might not know a problem exists. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems can help prevent vision loss.

Management of Myopia Progression: Myopia has become increasingly prevalent around the world in recent decades, resulting in a major health, social and economic burden. In fact, in 2010, myopia was estimated to be the main cause of distance visual impairment worldwide – and it is ranked as the second most common cause of blindness globally. The implications of a high number of people having myopia are serious; it is a major risk factor for ocular diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, choroidal retinal degeneration, and retinal detachment. We know that myopia tends to progress rapidly as children grow and we now have therapy options (listed below) to help reduce the rate of progression.

Orthokeratology: or ortho-k, is the use of specially designed and fitted contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea to improve vision. It’s like orthodontics for your eyes and the treatment is often compared to dental braces. Most ortho-k lenses are worn at night to reshape the front surface of the eye while you sleep. Vision improvements are reversible but can be maintained if you keep wearing the lenses as directed.

Soft Multifocal Contacts: These lenses utilize a design to help modify peripheral retinal defocus which is a proposed risk factor for myopia progression.

Low Dose Atropine: Atropine eye drops have a long history of use in the treatment of myopia. Recently, low-dose atropine (0.01%) has been widely adopted to help reduce the risk of dose-dependent side effects. A clinical trial indicated a 60% reduction in myopia progression vs. historical control, with significantly less rebound effects. A number of studies are currently in progress to more thoroughly study 0.01% atropine as a myopia treatment

Contact Lens Services: Don’t want to wear glasses? Contact lenses are a great alternative. And with so many varieties to choose from, nearly everyone can wear them. We also offer customized contact lenses for difficult prescriptions and specialty contact lenses for patients with challenging corneal conditions such as keratoconus.

Pediatric Eye Exams: Eye exams for children are very important to insure your child's eyes are healthy and have no vision problems that could interfere with school performance and potentially affect your child's safety.

Dry Eye Evaluations/Treatments: Dry eye happens when your eyes don’t make enough tears to stay wet, or when your tears don’t work correctly. This can make your eyes feel uncomfortable, and in some cases it can also cause vision problems. There are many reasons for dry eye including age, medications, contact lenses, etc. Adjacently, there is a questionnaire that may be helpful in determining the severity of your dry eyes and the impact it has on daily functions.

Medical Treatment of Eye Disease including Glaucoma: We routinely see patients for a variety of ocular problems such as corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, floaters, etc.

Glaucoma is a disease that damages your eye’s optic nerve. It usually happens when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. That extra fluid increases the pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve. Glaucoma is silent, meaning patients do not know they have glaucoma. If left undetected, the optic nerve can become permanently damaged which causes irreversible vision loss.

On-Site Eyeglasses Laboratory: Depending on your prescription and insurance, we can finish a variety of different prescriptions in our office either the same day or the next!
